Confession

Lately, I've been dabbling if I should pursue styling as a career. I have always been a better dresser than designer so I feel styling comes more naturally to me. So, I thought to myself: "Where do I start if I want to learn more about styling?" First, I would have to read up on all the fashion books (i.e. Confessions of a Window Dresser, Style A to Zoe, Career Diary of a Fashion Stylist, etc.), watch old movies for inspiration/knowledge, and INTERN!
My dream would be to assist any of the two ladies pictured above. Camilla Nickerson (top) is a renown fashion director at W magazine who used to work for American Vogue. Her work is amazing! I just love the shoot with Ginnifer Goodwin as well as the Posh & Becks shoot a while back. Aya T. Kanai (bottom) is also a stylist I would love to work for. She is currently a fashion editor at Teen Vogue but my interest in her work began when she worked for Nylon magazine. I remember loving the Nylon shoot with Michelle Williams and Ashley Olsen. But my favorite would have to Sienna Miller with those rockin' Doc Martins! Aya's style is quirky, unique, and effortless.
It never ceases to amaze me how these ladies made it to where they are today. Hopefully someday I will have the connections, money, and resources to land a career like theirs. But in the meantime, interning for either of them will make my dreams come true...

hi grace, i heard about your blog. anyway, stylings always been an interest of mine as well. my favorite stylist to look for right now has to be Marie-Amelie Sauve. I may be sort of biased because she is Nicholas Ghesquiere's right hand lady (and we know how I love everything balenciaga) but shes also an editor at French Vogue and she rules. Some of my fav shots from a shoot from Vogue Paris, May 2006.

I'm sure you would be a great stylist. I guess it just takes knowledge and a little luck.
